I'm a native English speaker and have been teaching English online for 4.5 years to a wide range of students. I have a 120 hour TEFL certificate and a BA in English. I
ve taught quite a few students using the Discovery series and also the National Geographic great writing books.
So many of my students have studied English there whole lives but haven't done much speaking. I try to get them to talk and also to learn how we speak day to day.. For example, I used to help a Chinese friend with her English essays and the teachers insisted they use idioms in almost every paragraph, which might be good for practice, but we don't speak or write that way in general.
